On the last day of the month named for the planet Mars, Chef Menteur’s official public release party will be held at Siberia in New Orleans. Full lineup to be announced soon. You can buy the album at the show; any remaining copies (if any) of the album will be available for sale after that, but there are still some available for preorder.

The album won’t be available to the public till a month or so later, but we will be handing out albums in person to our Kickstarter backers on Saturday, February 11th.
The party will be hosted by one of our backers at her house in Mid-city, and there will be food and beer. Backers will get the address information via the Kickstarter email.
We’re planning on scheduling a more public release party sometime later in the spring in New Orleans.

As you may know, we are only making 200 copies of the new double LP and each copy is hand-printed on all 4 sides of the multicolor gatefold. We’ve suffered more than our share of delays from the pressing plant but the word is that they are finally shipping this week. Meanwhile, the album cover art is also nearing completion.
This project was made possible thanks to our Kickstarter backers, and we’re pleased to report that we’re making 20 copies available to those friends and fans who missed getting in on the excitement, at the same price.
Head on over to Backporch Revolution to reserve your copy!

Chef Menteur has raised enough funds through our Kickstarter drive to put out the new double LP East of the Sun & West of the Moon on vinyl. The Man said it couldn’t be done. Vinyl? Ridiculous. DOUBLE VINYL? INSANE.
So *thank you* to all our friends and supporters who helped us put the music, the shows and the videos together–AND *especially* to everyone who backed to the fund drive. You know who you are! We hope you’ll enjoy the record and whatever other bonus goodies you’ve got coming your way. You’ll be hearing through us via Kickstarter email to get your shipping details as we send out rewards and LPs. We’re hoping to have all records pressed and printed by mid-October.
We’re really excited about putting this record out. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun to do, and we’re pretty sure you will really enjoy listening to it.
If you missed the boat, and still want to reserve your own copy of the LP, there are less than 24 hours left. It’s a limited edition record of 200 so remaining copies could vanish rather quickly after all the Kickstarter backers have gotten theirs.
After 7:33PM CDT Wednesday, the drive will close, and you’ll just have to take your chances if you want the DOUBLE LP (or any of the other rewards). So if you haven’t already, get your name on the list while you still can.
In the meantime stay tuned, we’re going to start organizing manufacturing and printing of this beast, and Dan has almost finished another video for another song on the record— so keep an eye on our website and Facebook page. Here are the links:

In my opinion CM are one of the most unheralded pioneers of ambience in the past 10 years.

There’s also an exclusive download of “I Belong to this Plateau” —the very first mp3 from East of the Sun and West of the Moon to be leaked.

Electronic music has always been a part of Chef Menteur, and this early track is about as dub-acid as we got, playing with two 303s, a slowed down-drum machine .

Another track from the early days that benefitted greatly by a visit by our friend Mack—who, having returned recently from living and traveling in the Far East, provided the main vocal sample from his impressive collection of Chinese pop music. Perhaps our first attempt to ruthlessly pillage Asian sounds?
This one also became a live staple (for about a year) and was also the dancey-ist of all Chef Menteur tracks. It was certainly the first (and maybe last) that got someone dancing at one of our shows.
Recently, I showed this track to Phil, CM’s latest addition. He said it reminded him of Muslimgauze’s Abu Nidal.

Here’s another super early track from the ancien régime of Chef Menteur. This one became a live staple for many years to come. A simple drum beat, groovy bass line and a repeating four-chord progression alternating between Mellotron and Farfisa, overdubbed with samples from Art Bell’s Coast to Coast AM radio show and a 1980’s Yamaha toy keyboard…. (the Alien Renaissance was in full effect and the X-Files was still on at this time).
